application
guidelines

The purpose of the Palmer Home Foundation is to distribute funds to nonprofit organizations serving the needs of seniors aged 60 and over in Kent County, Delaware. Applications for funding are accepted between July 1 and September 1 of each year, with funds being distributed in March of the following year. Applications received after the September 1 date may not be considered.

If your organization is interested in applying for a grant, please complete the application found under the Forms section of our website and upload ALL required documents. If you are including administrative costs in your request for funds, be sure to thoroughly explain how those funds are used, as we prefer that funds are used to provide direct services to seniors. Lastly, please specify how you will ensure that funds are used only for seniors living in Kent County aged 60 and over.

The Board reviews all applications in September and November. Members of the Palmer Home Foundation Board will make appointments for on-site visits and interviews in December and January. They will meet with a person from your agency who is knowledgeable about the operation of your organization and its grant application. The purpose of this meeting is to clarify any questions or concerns that have been discussed by the Board. In addition, an up-to-date expense report should be submitted for review prior to the Board Members’ visit if you received funds the previous year.

After the Palmer Home Foundation January meeting, all grant applicants will be notified in writing of the Board’s decision regarding funding. Checks are disbursed in March.

Organizations who receive funds must submit the Expense Summary Sheet found under the Forms section of our website twice each year. In completing the summaries, be as specific as possible without revealing names of those who receive direct benefit from Palmer Grant monies. The first Summary is due on August 1 and the second is due by the Dec/Jan site visit. If all of the grant amount has not been used by the time of the site visit, then a third one is due by February 28, with an explanation for any remaining funds. Failure to submit Expense Summary Sheets in a timely fashion will jeopardize any considerations to future grant submissions.

We look forward to receiving your application in the hope that together we may improve services
for the seniors of Kent County, Delaware.
